The West Virginia Department of Agriculture is responsible for programs in the areas of farming, economic development, public health and the environment. The Commissioner of Agriculture is elected by the citizens of the state; this is a constitutional office.

Animal Health Division - Responsible to prevent, suppress and control communicable diseases of animals or poultry. Includes news. Communications Division - Coordinates the distribution of agriculturally related information to the general public and provides printing and informational support to all other WVDA divisions and the State Soil Conservation Agency, Forestry Division and West Virginia Agricultural Statistics Service. Marketing & Development Division - Responsible for the promotion of agricultural products and commodities, economic development and the operation of state owned farms. Includes news and publications. Meat & Poultry Inspection Division - Responsible for the inspection, labeling and disposition of animals, poultry, carcasses, and meat and poultry products which are to be sold or offered for sale though commercial outlets for human consumption; and inspecting and licensing slaughterhouses and processing facilities. Includes rules and requirements. Regulatory & Environmental Affairs Division - Responsible for enforcing laws, rules and regulations to protect the public food supply. Includes forms. West Virginia Conservation Agency - Offers resources to local communities and land users that address conservation issues. Includes news, programs and employment opportunities. Plant Industries Division - Responsible for pest detection, survey, identification, and control efforts and for enforcing regulations that protect crops and forests. Includes forms, laws and rules.
