Brighton is a town located in Essex County, Vermont. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 1,260. The town was named Gilead in its original grant in 1780. It was then sold to a group comprised primarily of soldiers commanded by Colonel Joseph Nightingale and subsequently named Random. The town's name was finally changed by the legislature to Brighton in 1932. [From: wikipedia]
