Bushnell's Basin is a historic district located in the southwest corner of the
Town of Perinton. The mailing address, however, is within the
Town of Pittsford. In the early 1820s, Hartwell’s Basin, as it was called at the time, developed as a canal settlement. On the main stagecoach route connecting
Rochester's Genesee Falls and the
Village of Canandaigua, the basin played a key role. The
Village of Fairport eventually eclipsed the basin as the seat of power. Today, Bushnell's Basin is a scenic residential and business area straddling the Erie Canal.
