Rockcastle County was formed in 1810. It is located in the Daniel Boone Country region of the state. The elevation in the county ranges from 810 to 1638 feet above sea level. In 2000 the county population was 16,582 in a land area of 317.53 square miles. The county seat is Mount Vernon.
