Rolfe is a small town (population 675 in the 2000 census) in northwest Iowa, in an area of some of the richest farmland on the globe. Its Sunset Ridge Park is the trailhead to the Three Rivers Trail, a 37-mile-long hiking trail which follows an old railroad right-of-way through three counties. Rolfe students are part of the Pocahontas Area Community school district. Rolfe maintains the middle school (grades 6-8) for the district, while elementary and high school students attend school in nearby Pocahontas. "Old Rolfe," in the countryside, was the original county seat, and nearby is the site of the last Indian versus Indian battle in Iowa.
