Lutz (pronounced "loots") is, generally, the area of unincorporated Hillsborough County north of Tampa. The northern portion extends into unincorporated Pasco County Lutz encompasses the 33548, 33549, 33559, 33559 zip codes. The core of Lutz is located at the intersection of US 41 and 1st Avenue and encompasses the area east of Dale Mabry Highway to Livingston Avenue and north of Lake Crenshaw and Whitaker Roads to the Hillsborough County line. In the historical accounts of Florida, it is most often Henry Flagler and his rails that are in the spotlight. Tampa's history focuses on Henry B. Plant who competed with Flagler and linked Tampa into the growing Florida rail system. A bit to the north, a young man named W.P. Lutz connected two rail lines, a point that became known as "Lutz Junction." It was shortened to "Lutz" in 1913 when the community received a post office.
