Canton [Hartford County] Connecticut was incorporated from Simsbury, May, 1806. The name Canton was suggested by the late Ephraim Mills, derived from a likeness to a Swiss canton. Original name, "Suffrage." Area, 25.0 sq. miles. Population, est., 8,115. Voting districts, 1.
