The city of Solana Beach lies on the California coast, 20 miles north of the city of San Diego. In Spanish, a solana is a sunny place, hence the name Solana Beach. Its population is approximately 12,000, according to the 2000 census figures for the Solana Beach ZIP code, 92075. This figure, however, is somewhat low for the city, because it does not count the part of Solana Beach that falls within the ZIP code of neighboring Del Mar.
