Ceres, located in Stanislaus County just south of Modesto, had reached a population of almost 33,000 by 2000. The city lies on the opposite side of the Tuolumne River from Modesto, the county seat. Ceres is within commuting range of the San Francisco Bay Area but is served by media in Modesto and Sacramento.
