Like most of the Niagara Region, the City of Welland is still smarting from the 1980s recession but making notable strides to an economic recovery. Its downtown area is no longer as depressed as it was, and the Seaway Mall has recently been expanded. New home construction is on the rise, and major employers such as Atlas Steel are facing the future with renewed optimism.
