The Pembroke Welsh Corgi and Cardigan Welsh Corgi are two distinct herding breeds developed in Wales. Recognized initially in England as the Welsh Corgi, the Kennel Club declared the Cardigans and Pembrokes as separate breeds in 1934. In the same year, the AKC recognized the Welsh Corgi and then, just before year's end, recognized them as two breeds. While there are other differences, the most obvious is that the Cardigan is the Corgi with a tail.
