Synods are regional governing bodies of the Presbyterian Church (USA). Synods serve as an additional level of jurisdiction between presbyteries and the General Assembly and often work in ministries with the General Assembly, presbyteries, and local congregations. The Presbyterian Church (USA) maintains 16 synods, each consisting of several presbyteries.
