Senior societies are fraternal organizations that are for seniors and recruit only from the junior class each year. Originally highly secretive organizations, on many campuses, these organizations have become primarily honor societies, although they still maintain many of the traditions of the original societies. Unlike other collegiate fraternal organizations, senior societies do not use Greek letters for their names. The first and most famous senior society is Skull and Bones at Yale, founded in 1832.
