Lagrange - Joseph Louis Lagrange (1736-1813) - The greatest mathematician of the 18th century, in his letter, written at 19, to Euler, he solved the isoperimetrical problem, to effect the solution he enunciated the principles of the calculus of variations.
Wallis, John (1616-1703) - Contributed substantially to the origins of calculus and was the most influential mathematician before Newton.
Bernoulli, Jakob (1654-1705) - Brother of famous brother Johann helped develop Bernoulli numbers, which are derived by rational sequences, as well as theories of probability and the binomial theorem. Includes bibliography.
Maclaurin, Colin (1698-1746) - Briefly describes the Scottish mathematician's work on a special Taylor's series called the Maclaurin, Newton's "A Treatise of Fluxions", as well as his other scientific contributions.
Bernoulli, Johann (1667-1748) - Pioneers in the field of calculus, appied the new tool to real problems, life was one of the most controversial of any mathematician, member of the world's most successful mathematical family, also known as Johannes, Jean or John.
