South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive

The Woodhead Site
- A history of the railway line between Sheffield and Manchester, closed in 1981 and now a substantial part of the Trans-Pennine Trail. Includes information about route, locomotives, and memorabilia.
River Don Navigation
- This system was the result of early efforts to make the River Don navigable between Fishlake (now on the Stainforth and Keadby Canal) and Sheffield. It lost its separate identity in 1895, when it became part of the Sheffield and South Yorkshire Navigation.
Woodhead Line
- A former railway line linking Sheffield, Penistone and Manchester. Construction, electrification and closure.
Manchester-Sheffield-Wath Electric Railway
- An early electrification scheme on British railways. The route featured long ascents on both sides of the Pennines with the long Woodhead Tunnel at its central summit close to the Woodhead pass. This also led to the route being called the Woodhead Line.
Woodhead Tunnel
- The tunnels are three trans-Pennine railway tunnels which formerly carried a major rail link from Manchester to Sheffield. The western portals are at Woodhead in Derbyshire and the eastern portals are at Dunford Bridge, near Penistone.
Don Valley Railway Project
- Information about a project to restore rail services from Deepcar to Sheffield, part of the Woodhead line; includes description, history, events, fundraising, and contact details.
