"Tipping the Velvet" is a BBC period drama, based on the Sarah Walters' modern Victorian novel, in which Rachael Stirling stars as a young oyster girl, Nan. It chronicles her journey through several varied lesbian relationships in Victorian England, and explores themes of domination, prostititution and transvestitism.
