The Treaty of Nice is a European Union treaty, rejected by Irish referendum in 2001, and which is being put to referendum again in Ireland in 2002. Ireland is the only country in the EU with a constitution that legally requires a referendum on this matter. Interpretations vary widely as to the exact consequences of the treaty.
