A major intent of this category is to list opportunities which offer a stipend to the teacher (such as some summer programs) or which can be purchased directly by the teacher (such as university-type courses offered specifically for teachers) or are free to the teacher through any means other than employer-mandated workshops or meetings. In some areas, professional development only means workshops or classes offering "continuing education credits" or "CEUs."
