University of Massachusetts Boston - The campus, with an enrollment of 12,500 students, is located on a 175-acre tract on Columbia Point peninsula, which it shares with the John F. [Free registration required.] Center for the Improvement of Teaching - CIT's initial goal was to improve the quality of teaching within the College of Arts and Sciences by drawing on the skills and wisdom of UMB's faculty rather than outside experts. In 1989, the Center extended its activities to the university as a whole, and emphasized diversity and inclusion as key components in teaching and learning. Department of Public Safety - Police officers are on duty 24 hours a day, all year long and patrol the university and adjacent roads in marked police vehicles, police bicycles, and on foot. All police officers have the same law enforcement authority as state or municipal police officers and are trained at state certified municipal police training academies. Gerontology Institute - Mission: To expand the knowledge base of and focus attention on the economic, social, and political issues and problems facing the aging population. The McCormack Institute - Through its public policy research, educational programs, and publications, the institute seeks to contribute to informed public discourse and to play a constructive role in public policy formulation and problem solving. Graduate Student Assembly - The GSA is dedicated to enhancing the academic and professional development of graduate students. University Advising Center - Provides a comprehensive orientation and assessment program (testing, CLEP administration) for new students; academic advising for undecided CAS majors and undeclared CM concentrators. The Healey Library - This site site provides general information about the department, detailed information about its collections, and an introduction to its policies. Institute for Asian American Studies - The Institute brings together resources and expertise within both the university and the community to conduct research on Asian Americans; to expand Asian American studies in the curriculum; and to strengthen the community development capacity of Asian Americans. Urban Harbors Institute - A public policy and scientific research institute dedicated to public service, research and education. The Institute conducts multidisciplinary research on urban harbor issues ranging from water quality and coastal resource protection, to harbor management, port planning and integrated coastal zone management.
