The University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science is one of 13 constituent institutions of the University System of Maryland. Led by President Donald F. Boesch, the Center's programs are carried out at three laboratories located across the state: the Appalachian Laboratory in western Maryland, the Chesapeake Biological Laboratory, in southern Maryland and the Horn Point Laboratory on the Delmarva Peninsula. UMCES is also responsible for the administration of the Maryland Sea Grant College program. While the Center's research and science application activities emphasize the Chesapeake Bay and its watershed, its reach extends nationally and world-wide to distant seas and lands.
