Game modifications (mods) are typically created by fans of a particular game. Each mod adds a set of features that changes the way the original game plays. A mod is usually made available for free from the group that created it. Several mods for Battlefield 1942 have been enormously successful, including Desert Combat and its variants. Modifications can include changes to almost any aspect of the game, including visual features (skins and textures), maps, vehicles and weapons.
