Michael Moore began his filmmaking career when General Motors laid off 30,000 workers in his hometown of Flint, Michigan. "Roger & Me" (1989) chronicled his attempt to find the chairman of GM, Roger Smith. Subsequent films include "Canadian Bacon" (1995) and "The Big One" (1997). Moore was elected at age eighteen to the Davison, Michigan board of education, and has served as the editor of the Flint Voice/Michigan Voice.
