A guitar with seven strings rather than the usual six. Russian Guitar - the classical and acoustic seven string guitar developed in 19th century Russia, and is tuned to an Open G; it was very popular until the 1970s and 1980s. The Electric Seven String Guitar was introduced in the late 1930s by George Van Eps; it is a regular electric guitar with an additional bass string. It is most commonly played by Jazz guitarists.
