American violinist Hilary Hahn (1980-) was born in Lexington, VA and was raised in Baltimore, MD. She graduated from Philadelphia's Curtis Institute of Music with a bachelor of music degree at 19. Hahn studied under several virtuosos including Klara Berkovich and Jascha Brodsky, and was declared "America's Best Young Classical Musician" by Time Magazine in 2001. She signed her first recording contract before she graduated though, with Sony Classical in 1996 as a 16-year-old. She recorded five exclusive performances with Sony before leaving at the end of 2002. In 2003, Hahn won a Grammy for best instrumental soloist performance with an orchestra for her 2001 recording of the Brahms and Stravinsky violin concertos. Hahn now records for Deutsche Grammophon.
