Romantic opera composer Richard Georg Strauss was born in Bavaria in 1864. He died in Germany in 1949. Among his works, including several operas, he also composed the Olympic hymn for the 1936 Games in Berlin. His mention can bring controversy among musicologists and historians alike. His abilities are still debated and categorization between Romantic and Modern periods is open to interpretation. Although he had a friendly working relationship with Jewish composer Zweig, some accused him of contributing too much to the Nazi cause through his music. Despite his name Richard Strauss is not related to the Vienna Strauss family.
