Swiss-born Renaissance composer Ludwig Senfl (1486?-1542/1543) began as a choir boy and music copyist. Among his works are Masses, motets, German secular songs (Lieder), and German sacred vocal works for the Lutheran church. Two of his motets were dedicated specifically to Martin Luther.
