(1825-1892) His real name was Florimond Ronger and he was always known by the nickname "Le Compositeur Tocqué" ("The Crazy Composer"). He was organist to a lunatic asylum in Paris called the Bicêtre Hospital where he organized performances of small musical plays which he wrote himself. In the hands of Offenbach the genre of the opérette, which Halevé had invented, became very popular.
