Italian Renaissance composer Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina was likely born near Rome in a town called Palestrina. Some list his birth in 1514 or 1515 while other maintain a much later date of 1525 or 1526. It is certain that he died in Rome in 1594. He was choirmaster at St. Peters in Rome and was a major representative of the Council of Trent's musical reforms. His style is based in Franco-Flemish imitative counterpoint, voice parts flow in continuous rhythm, with a new melodic motive for each phrase of the text.
