Norwegian Romantic composer Edvard Grieg (1843-1907) epitomizes Norway's music for most of the world and, with Nielsen and Sibelius, is foremost among Nordic composers. He studied in Rome and Leipzig, then lived in Copenhagen before moving to Oslo, where he also taught music and conducted. His later years were spent in Bergen and abroad. His most known work is Peer Gynt, suite No. 1 Op. 46.
