French composer Gabriel Fauré was born in 1845 and died in 1924. While moving from Romantic to Impressionist and Modern sensibilities, he stayed in touch with music's past. His students as professor of composition, and later director, at the Paris Conservatoire included Ravel, Koechlin, Enesco, Vuillermoz, and Boulange.
