American composer Tom Alonso began a first-hand encounter with music in the backstage of the Baltimore Opera, where his parents performed. Comfortable in numerous styles, American jazz and classical (especially Copland, Bernstein and Gershwin) were special influences. He scored a number of television programs and specials and became involved in composing for musical theater.
