American singer/songwriter, who had a run of hits in the late 50s and early 60s, and again in the 70s. His hit singles include "Stairway to Heaven", "Next Door to an Angel", "Bad Blood" (featuring Elton John on backing vocals), "Laughter in the Rain", "Calendar Girl", "Oh! Carol", and "Breaking up Is Hard to Do" (twice, in 1962 and 1976, with two different arrangements).
