The movement to consciously revive the Gothic style became fashionable in England from c.1750 and later in the rest of Europe and America. In the 19th century it was the accepted style for churches.

A Gothic Revival Church - Design by Richard Upjohn c.1850s in the Library of Congress. Upjohn was a key figure in introducing the Gothic Revival to the United States and in defining the form of American church architecture.
